Austin Part Two

Our hotel in Austin offered lots of activities.  Mike was excited about trying out their ropes course.

Being an Eagle Scout, he had done things like this before.  The instructors were impressed with his ability to take on the course.

I was very happy staying on the ground!  I was still restricted from crazy activities like this anyway.

Mike even did part of this without holding on to anything!

I don't think my short legs could make that stretch.

This part didn't look too bad...

...but this part terrified me!

The only way down was the zip line.

Thankfully, there are plenty of safety procedures involved.

I was glad to have him safely back on the ground!

Austin Part One

We planned a trip to Austin for spring break a while ago.  It was nice to get away for a few days.  Our hotel was somewhat out in the country.

The area was very peaceful!

Our room was very comfortable.  I was surprised that there wasn't a television but who watches television on vacation anyway.  I was able to use my phone to look up the results of the reality shows I watch.

There was a huge shower in the bathroom!

We also had our own private porch.  We were glad that we did not have many neighbors while we were there.

We definitely enjoyed our amazing view!

Checkup...

I went to the doctor for my follow up appointment today.  I still have some restrictions but I'm healthy and the blood work was all normal.  I had a good talk with my doctor and have some things to think about and do some research on.  Emotionally I'm still very up and down but it is still in the normal range.  I am so thankful for all the love and support I get on a daily basis!  I've been feeling really socially awkward lately but I know it is good for me to get out and spend time with people.

Life Lately...

First of all, I am blessed with the most amazing husband!  We checked me into the hospital on his birthday and he endured everything right by my side.  Katie brought cupcakes to the hospital for a small celebration and stuck around for nearly every moment of our hospital experience.  Lots of love to Katie's mom who helped us get settled in and process what was about to happen.

Two days after we found out about our late miscarriage we got a call and made our way to the hospital.  We were anticipating outpatient surgery but were shocked to find out I was being admitted to labor and delivery.  Though it wasn't the easiest option we are thankful that we had the opportunity to minimize the impact on my body.  I don't think anyone was prepared for my stubborn body to keep us there for six long days and nights.  The doctors and nurses tried many different things and my body just wouldn't budge!  I'll spare the harsh details but I was so relieved to finally go home.

Being at home has had challenges too.  Even though the hospital meant poking and prodding we didn't have to deal with the outside world.  The thought of seeing the people I know and love was somewhat terrifying but I knew that would help us heal.  We have felt so loved because of all the phone calls, texts, emails, visits, meals, flowers, hugs, and tears.  Every step towards finding our new normal is difficult but worth it.

Even in this tough situation we do feel blessed for a number of reasons.  I am so grateful for my health!  It feels amazing to not be hooked up to machines, not be pumped full of medications, and simply just operate like a normal person.  We hadn't started on the nursery or accumulated a large amount of baby items.  The maternity clothes and baby things that we do have are easy to pack up and store until they are needed.  We also have hope for future pregnancies.  We will likely never know exactly what happened in this situation but the best explanation is that it was probably some kind of genetic fluke.  In this case the baby just didn't develop right for some reason.  Our hope comes from the fact that we were able to get pregnant pretty easily and my body didn't fail.  If anything, my body was still in it for the long haul.

Please continue to pray for us!  I know that complete healing will take time and this is something we will always carry with us.  I want to celebrate with friends as their families grow.  I want Satan to know that I will not listen to him as he tries to fill my head with lies about my self worth, my future dreams, and my relationships!  As my favorite band Superchick would say...God "will bring beauty from my pain."

A New Chapter...

Everything changed at the doctor's office yesterday.  We found out that our baby's heart was no longer beating.  Please pray for us as we deal with the physical and emotional aspects of this situation.  We know it will take time to heal but we still have hope for the future.

Online Shopping!!!

Though I'm still wearing my regular clothes I have been working on expanding my wardrobe for when I start expanding more noticeably.  A big THANK YOU to my mom for funding a little online shopping spree for me!  I stuck mostly to tops since that was what I needed most and I have an 'always try them on' relationship with pants.  I can't wait to get these two from Old Navy!

Snow Day?

School was canceled today because of the snow and ice coming our way last night.  I slept in so late that whatever we did get was already pretty much melted.  Regardless, yankee chili is in the crock pot and I have no intention of leaving home today.

Baby Rogers is starting to make itself known.  Until recently I really didn't feel pregnant at all.  Since starting my second trimester I've felt a little more sick at night but I think that is starting to go away.  I haven't started wearing official maternity clothes yet but some of my pants do require the help of my belly band.  I'm not sure if I have felt the baby move...but there are definitely some odd feelings going on in that region at times.  Eating has been interesting lately.  Nothing really sounds good and when I do eat things don't taste like much of anything.  It is hard to tell if I am craving anything because of the baby or if I am just fond of the same foods I have always loved.  Mike gave in and bought me cupcakes recently and I bought the necessary items for chili cheese hot dogs when I was grocery shopping for the big winter storm.  Gotta go...my pepperoni pizza is ready!
