Austin Part Five

We visited the local botanical gardens while in Austin.  I was glad it was free because there weren't very many blooming plants.

There were some lovely waterfalls.

We did get to see a few flowers.

I'm very excited about bluebonnet season!

I always think of my grandpa when I see lots of beautiful plants.  Good thing he hasn't seen the plants in our backyard.

We didn't have a lot of plans when we went to Austin.  We did some shopping and checked out things that looked interesting.

We couldn't stop for ice cream at Bluebell when we drove to Austin because they aren't open on weekends.

We were able to stop on the way home since we were traveling during the week.  Mike had chocolate chip cookie dough and I had cherry cheesecake.

We dropped by Camp Curry to pick up Gypsy on our way home.  (The strap across her face is to help her learn how to be a better walker.)  She was very happy to see us but I know she had a great time with her friend Sinatra.

We finally celebrated Mike's birthday a month late.  I made his favorite cupcakes and he got to pick out a new golf club.  We really enjoyed our trip!

Austin Part Four

Most of the big cats at the Austin Zoo were pretty lazy.

The pigs were enjoying a lovely day in the mud and dirt.

Apparently turtles can be picky eaters.  The one on the left was only eating carrots and the one on the right was only eating the greens.  It reminds me of how my college roommate and I shared Chex Mix.

I think bobcats look strange.

Mike loves llamas and alpacas.  This one was consuming his medication with some bananas.

It cracks me up that this goat has a toothy smile.

Can you go to Austin without seeing longhorns?  Apparently you can't.

Longhorns and emus are an odd combination but I guess it works.

The white foxes were happy to have their picture taken but the regular fox kept hiding.

We always enjoy visiting the zoo!

Austin Part Three

One of our favorite places in Austin is the zoo because all of the animals are rescue animals.  Birds love Mike but usually aren't fond of me.

There are peacocks, chickens, roosters, and cats wondering all over the zoo.

Some of the parents were letting their kids get really close to the roaming animals.  I preferred to stay away from them.

We were just in time to see the monkeys get their breakfast.  Monkeys can be very picky eaters!

This one loved avocados.

The zoo had a variety of birds.  Most were in good shape but a few had obviously been mistreated by their previous owners.

I thought this wolf was beautiful!

The large tortoises were actually pretty active.

The tigers were quite large.

The lions were being pretty lazy.

I was surprised how close we could get to such dangerous animals.

Austin Part Two

Our hotel in Austin offered lots of activities.  Mike was excited about trying out their ropes course.

Being an Eagle Scout, he had done things like this before.  The instructors were impressed with his ability to take on the course.

I was very happy staying on the ground!  I was still restricted from crazy activities like this anyway.

Mike even did part of this without holding on to anything!

I don't think my short legs could make that stretch.

This part didn't look too bad...

...but this part terrified me!

The only way down was the zip line.

Thankfully, there are plenty of safety procedures involved.

I was glad to have him safely back on the ground!

Austin Part One

We planned a trip to Austin for spring break a while ago.  It was nice to get away for a few days.  Our hotel was somewhat out in the country.

The area was very peaceful!

Our room was very comfortable.  I was surprised that there wasn't a television but who watches television on vacation anyway.  I was able to use my phone to look up the results of the reality shows I watch.

There was a huge shower in the bathroom!

We also had our own private porch.  We were glad that we did not have many neighbors while we were there.

We definitely enjoyed our amazing view!

Checkup...

I went to the doctor for my follow up appointment today.  I still have some restrictions but I'm healthy and the blood work was all normal.  I had a good talk with my doctor and have some things to think about and do some research on.  Emotionally I'm still very up and down but it is still in the normal range.  I am so thankful for all the love and support I get on a daily basis!  I've been feeling really socially awkward lately but I know it is good for me to get out and spend time with people.
